Thanks to generous assistance from the Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff, the GeoFamily Foundation, United Way of Northern Arizona and W. L. Gore & Associates, Friends of Camp Colton and Camp Colton have hired Jackson Carranco as Program Coordinator.
Jackson’s background in middle school education and years of working at Camp Colton make him the perfect choice for helping northern Arizona students connect with nature and develop skills and relationships to last a lifetime.
Jackson worked at Camp Colton every season since 2016 while earning his Master’s degree in Science Education from Northern Arizona University. As a former middle school science teacher, his expertise enhances daily Camp operations and will improve and expand programs.
Seeing the impact Camp Colton has on young campers fueled his interest in a full-time position.
“It’s so powerful to watch and be a part of kids disconnecting from modern distractions and instead connecting with each other over nature and STEM experiences,” Jackson said. “I talk to campers all the time about how camp challenges them personally and how much fun they’re having. From hula hoop competitions and staying the night away from home to analyzing forest health, I want to help many young people as possible have a fantastic experience!”
