Although most scholarships focus on high school achievements, graduating seniors can now be rewarded for something they did back in sixth grade. Friends of Camp Colton has created $500 scholarships for the two Camp Colton alumni best able to describe their Camp experiences and how they influenced their lives.
Available online at https://friendsofcampcolton.org/camp-colton-scholarship/ and due by Monday, May 2, the application requires an essay of up to 500 words or a three-minute video, along with a minimum 3.0 GPA and acceptance from an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school.
“Camp Colton alumni frequently comment on the impact Camp had on them, not only helping them build camaraderie and friendships, but also instilling an appreciation for nature and an interest in STEM careers,” said Ari Wilder, executive director of Friends of Camp Colton. “Creating a scholarship enables the Class of 2022 to turn cherished Camp memories into funds to help them get a start on their future while helping us preserve an important part of Flagstaff history.”
Recipients will be notified in mid-May.
